Workstation installed many years ago. Updated every 3 months. Many users are allowed to login (pam_ldap) so no individual configuration is possible. Per site settings should work fine for everyone. LightDM allows starting XFCE and MATE.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XScreenSaver says:
"In the Xfce, LXDE and LXQt environments, XScreenSaver is autostarted automatically if it is available - no further action is required. "
Honestly I don't like any kind of magic :-(
With xscreensaver, mate-screensaver and slock installed under MATE mate-screensaver starts fine however in XFCE when I try to lock screen GUI hangs. When I try to configure screenaver I receive information that mate-screensaver(!) is running and should be stopped first and then xscreensaver started.
If I uninstall slock the only difference is that XFCE doesn't hang; just nothing happens after pressing <lock screen>. In MATE it is still fine.
If I uninstall slock and mate-screensaver in both environments I have to start xscreensaver manually; pressing <lock screen> just does nothing.
Any idea how could I get correct screensavers started for both environments?
