Two instances of same folder, one with changes while other without.

Hello. I wanna mod a game on my system but I also want to be able to play the unmodified version. I was wondering if I can copy the game folder without copying actual data, like a symlink or a hard link, but be able to modify the contents of that new folder without modifying the original. I don't want to copy the game data to another location just to mod it because its 40GB big.

What filesystem(s) are you using.
It's the default behaviour if your filesystem uses CoW (Copy on Write).

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Im using BTRFS.

I also noticed that the game actually stores mods in the Windows Documents folder so I dont even need to copy the game, just the wineprefix and rename it.
