Lenovo X1 carbon 10 gen camera not recognized

Hi,

i have a new Lenovo X1 carbon 10th generation and i'm not able to bring the built in webcam to work.

Apart from the information that:
FHD 1080p camera - tested and works
from the arch linux compability site i cannot find anything to solve my problem.

there is no /dev/video*

dmesg doesn't find the camera ... or something that looks like a camera.

today i updated the bios to the latest version 1.30
and also the linux system

uname -a says
Linux acharly 5.19.10-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue, 20 Sep 2022 15:17:59 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

is there something to rescan the hardware especially the camera?

Regards
Robert

Re: Lenovo X1 carbon 10 gen camera not recognized

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Lenovo … 10)#Camera mentions there are 2 camera setups for this laptop :

A FDH 1080 and something called MIPI "Computer Vision"  .
The 2nd one doesn't work, maybe your laptop has that camera ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building to complicated ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Lenovos System Info says:
1x FHD RGB+IR Camera with ThinkShutter

So it seems that i have the FHD camera.

I have checked the configuraion again, the us check says that this is the MIPI camear, the german versin hides this ifo.

Will there be a solution in he near future?
How can i check this?

Not in the near future, estimates are 1 to 2 years.

Check https://www.phoronix.com/news/Greg-KH-N … cam-Laptop for more info and interesting links..

Re: Lenovo X1 carbon 10 gen camera not recognized

Hello RA63/Forum

I have the same issue.

Lenovo Hompage says:

Camera
1x FHD RGB+IR Camera with ThinkShutter

So I should have a working camera yes? But there is no /dev/video0 device.

➜ ~ ls -al /dev/vid*
zsh: no matches found: /dev/vid*
➜ ~ sudo v4l2-ctl --list-device
Cannot open device /dev/video0, exiting.

Where did you find the information which led you to the conclusion:

I have checked the configuraion again, the us check says that this is the MIPI camear, the german versin hides this ifo.

What I tried so far:
* installing/booting different kernels: 6.2.0-arch1-1 6.1.14
* installing kernel modules intel_ipu6_dkms intel_ipu6_camera_hal

I never saw any device in lsusb:
