I just installed gimmick and xfce4, tightvnc on my desktop.
used "/opt/xfce4/bin/startxfce4" in ~/.vnc/xstartup
xfce4 starts up and I can see the mouse logo flashing but then stops and I do not have access to the panel, start menu, etc... I really have no idea why, but I've tried to re-install tightvnc and xfce but still nothing.
anyways. here's the log, I posted the whole thing as didn't know what part would be usefull. Hopefully someone can help.

I use xfce4.4-RC (testing repo) and tightvnc. I use these to start it up:
~/.vnc/xstartup
#!/bin/sh
exec dbus-launch ~/.vnc/vncxfce4
~/.vnc/vncxfce4
#!/bin/sh
#### XFCE4 #####
xfce-mcs-manager &
xfwm4 &
xfdesktop &
xfce4-panel &
Does xfce4 work in X?
How do you start vncserver? (I do this: user@arch ~ $ vncserver :9 )
I have allways ended up with errors and problems when I have used xfce4session in vnc and that's why I gave up the sessions with vnc.
Offline
I previously used testing xfce because I wanted thunar. unfortunately it didn't work at all.. Right now xfce is working with X fine using the xinitrc from /opt/xfce (I've copied this file into .vnc as .xstartup too)
I've always used "vncserver -geometry 800x600 -depth 8 :1" and never had issues until now...
I will try the solution provided and write back a little later on.
Thanks for replying

I tried your script to start it up, but gotten same results.

I found out that removing tightvnc again and then changing to just 'vncserver -geometry 800x600 :1" without - depth 8 now worked!
go figure, since I've already done that 2-3x already!!
Offline
Where did you got the vncserver, If you removed the tightvnc package?
$ pacman -Qo /usr/bin/vncserver
/usr/bin/vncserver is owned by tightvnc 1.2.9-4
Offline
well, I did "pacman -Rd tightvnc", then "pacman -S tightvnc"
