Display Compositor

NEW USER NEED HELP/ASSIST

I have installed Arch Linux with Kde Plasma on my laptop and desktop both

Laptop has amd cpu and it has smooth graphics and animations kde effects works well and no issue on audio, video, game

whereas Desktop has intel cpu it does not support kde effects , smooth video and performance lags

After searching for hours i found that OpenGL is responsible for it, so i disabled the compositor on desktop and things were working quiet fine but it left some black strip at bottom and no animation/effects

I have almost same specification on both devices:

Re: Display Compositor

That CPU/GPU is too old and doesn't meet the minimum requirements to provide the necessary acceleration. Your "best" bet is to use https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … 915_driver to lie about your capabilities that might however still work better, or generally avoid using a heavy environment that relies on acceleration, like some standalone WMs or so.

Your AMD CPU is a full year newer which might have just been the tipping point (... and generally intels igpu were horrendous before the HD/i* series)

Re: Display Compositor

The APUs were generally ahead  of the GMCHs, even year for year.
Since it's a desktop, buy the cheapest passive GPU of today and put that into the desktop - you'll get abysmally more performance from that, notably if there's an PCIe16 slot.
