[SOLVED] gtk4 rendering huge black aprons around menus

Hi all,

anyone else experiencing really annoying rendering issues in the latest nautilus (gtk4 / Gnome 43), where context menus have a huge black apron? Example:
black apron around context menu

Sorry for the poor quality of the image, was the fastest way to take one. My "desktop environment setup" is: X11, dwm.

Any hints appreciated, it's rather hard to google for that issue.

Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] gtk4 rendering huge black aprons around menus

Had some time digging into it.

The reason this happens is that gtk4 relies on the compositor to draw transparent stuff. dwm does not support this, and requires some external X compositor. Having xcompmgr or picom solves the black apron issue, although I'm not too happy having to run another piece of software that doesn't provide any meaningful benefit. I'll mark this as "solved" for the time being.
