GRUB and LABEL= device naming

Has anyone tried to boot with grub using the last line in the Persistent block device naming wiki page?  I can boot using a root argument of /dev/disk/by-label/main but when I swap that out with LABEL=main I get the following complaint from the kernel:

ERROR: Failed to parse block device name for 'LABEL=main'
  unknown

after which kinit (obviously) croaks and the kernel panics.  I've tried this with the vanilla kernel for 2.6.18 and 2.6.19, I'm using the stock kernel26.img made by mkinitcpio when I updated and my klibc-udev is 103-3, so I think it should work.

Is the LABEL= syntax only good in fstab?

Re: GRUB and LABEL= device naming

Not sure, but I had the same issue.  I replaced all of the LABEL= lines in my fstab with full path's too.
