[Solved] Strange graphical issues with KDE Plasma X11 and Nvidia GPU

Hey guys, lately I've been noticing this strange issue where any window I open from time to time suddenly goes all black, I can still select elements on the window but I can't see anything. The only way I've been able to get the UI back is by resizing the window, however even then that sometimes doesn't work so I have to restart my computer to get it back functional.

Does suspending the compositor (SHIFT+alt+F12 toggles it) reveal the window?

Sorry for the delay! It looks like it does make it work again but if I restart my computer at any point then it acts up again

Re: [Solved] Strange graphical issues with KDE Plasma X11 and Nvidia GPU

The textures run invalid - either across an S3 (suspend to ram) or because you're running out of VRAM or a bug in kwin.
Suspending the compositor unredirects the windows and makes them directly visible.

1. Do the come back/remain visible if you suspend and then resume the compositor (SHIFT+alt+F12 twice)?
2. What's the output of

qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation

Hey sorry for the delay again. It disappears again if I turn the compositor off and on, and attached is the output from the

qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation

command.

Likely trigger is the blur effect/plugin?
You could try to disable that (if the above doesn't help)

Re: [Solved] Strange graphical issues with KDE Plasma X11 and Nvidia GPU

Sorry for the delay again! I haven't had the issue as much since turning off the blur plugin but I still sometimes get black elements on pages like the Systems Settings program on KDE. Though now I'm noticng the window directions become stretched and frozen, have to restart the program in order to fix that issue.

What "window directions"? Of any window?

Does simply
a) resizing the window
b) restarting the compositor (SHIFT+alt+F12, twice)
"fix" that? (rather than restarting any client)

Oops, my apologizes! I actually mispelled, meant the window decorations. I took a picture to show what I mean by the decorations stretched. https://imgur.com/a/nP8L7Z6

Does that also happen w/ the "breeze" decoration?

Re: [Solved] Strange graphical issues with KDE Plasma X11 and Nvidia GPU

Sorry for the delay again, I just got back from a family trip! So a couple of things have changed now since my last response. I actually just got a new Nvidia GPU (this time a RTX 2060 I got from a classmate) and reinstalled the OS (using EndeavourOS this time around instead of vanilla ArchLinux), the computer actually seems to be running alot better this time around! I think it's all sorted now, not real sure if it was a misconfiguration when I was setting up vanilla Arch or if it was a hardware issue with my old GPU, hopefully the issue's gone entirely. Thanks for helping!

Be aware that this disqualifies you from getting support here. So if any other issues turn up, ask the Endeavour OS community

Re: [Solved] Strange graphical issues with KDE Plasma X11 and Nvidia GPU

Hello
I revive this topic because I'm affected by this bug and this is really annoying.
Here is my configuration:
Nvidia RTX 4080
Nvidia drivers (nvidia 535.113.01-6)
KDE Plasma 5.27.8
Qt version 5.15.11
Graphic Plateform X11
No blur effect checked

Re: [Solved] Strange graphical issues with KDE Plasma X11 and Nvidia GPU

The thread is a year old and for the OP it was apparently down to the blur effect, so technically you're necro-jacking this thread.
In any event we'd best see the kwin supportInformation, your xorg log and maybe some details on the behavioral pattern (eg. this is a common problem when resumign from S3 and there's a mechanism available to copy the VRAM into the RAM for that reason, you'd have to enable it, though)

So what I have to do ?
Open a new thread ?
How can I collect some infos for you about kwin, xorg, etc ?
Do I have to suspend effect before suspend and resume after ?
Thank you

Yes.

How can I collect some infos for you about kwin, xorg, etc ?

kwin supportinfo is explain ITT, Xorg log: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
system journal:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Do I have to suspend effect before suspend and resume after ?

Is the problem tied to S3 cycles?
