[SOLVED] Long delay on boot waiting for initrd-root-fs.target

Recently I've started to get a long delay on bootup, maybe about ~90s. It doesn't happen every time, in fact I think only when I update my kernel maybe? Apologies in advance for the huge data dump, but I'm still not exactly sure what the issue is.

I'll paste the start of my boot journal below where you can see the big jump in timestamp:

I have made some changes recently enough that they could be related too. For one, I enabled secureboot with sbctl for the purpose of unlocking my rootfs with tpm bound to pcr7 (the secureboot one). I think it has been working but I know little about secureboot:

The fido2 key is not plugged in, so it must have unlocked with tpm2 just after a long delay. This is how I have been unlocking my root volume lately, but it doesn't usually have any delay. The luks2 token is:

I always poweroff the machine with `poweroff` from my terminal, so it should not attempt to resume from hibernate.

I use mkinitpcio and only modified the HOOKS line to:

You have "to slow" system to boot fast! (that was a joke of course).

That might be not enough entropy produced by your system. I don't know how to setup it well, but you may read this:

I don't think so. For one, I would expect random.trust_cpu in my cmdline to avoid this issue — my cpu has support for rdrand. Second, smashing keys and flailing my mouse doesn't seem to do anything. I did however find that secureboot apparently prevents systemd-boot from passing a random seed to the kernel: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/16328, but I'm not convinced this is the issue.

When booting my pc this morning it happened again, this time I don't think any of my secureboot signed files have changed.

I think I was a little confused before, but the root volume is definitely unlocked as indicated by the "File System Check" and /sysroot lines. I really have no idea what initrd-root-fs.target could be waiting for. systemctl list-dependencies initrd-root-fs.target indicates the only dependency is systemd-repart.service, but I have no configuration for that service so the Condition checks will certainly fail (systemctl status says as much too).

Morta: what bug? What makes you think you're seeing a similar issue to the OP? What does 'works!' mean? The problem in this thread is not that something doesn't work but that something causes a delay/pause.

So, I can no longer reproduce this delay and in fact I had kinda forgotten about it. AFAICT from my journal it has not reproduced since Nov 27. I'm going to assume this was a bug in systemd that has since been fixed.
