[SOLVED] Firefox only opens in background

Since I've updated last week, Firefox (Developer edition, defined a default app in Gnome) seems to cause problems. Whenever I click on a link outside of Firefox e.g. in Evolution mail, Firefox will open the tab but only in the background. Before updating, Firefox just popped up with whatever opening in a new tab. Today I started using NewsFlash feed reader. There, I have another problem with openening links:

Failed to open URL: Portal request failed: org.freedesktop.zbus.Error: The name org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop was not provided by any .service files

 
I wonder if they are connected with each other.

I started investigating on Google and this forum, but I couldn't find a similar problem.
Any ideas how I can fix this? Thanks for your help.

Specs:
* Linux host 6.0.10-arch2-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat, 26 Nov 2022 16:51:18 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
* Firefox Developer Edition 108.0b8 (64-bit)
* Gnome 43.1
* Windowing System: Wayland

What about the "regular" FF?

The problem did not occur in a fresh install of FF.
No wonder: I have found a solution for the problem:

-  about:config
-  lookup browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground
-  set to false

False is the default setting and I have never switched it. Gotta investigate what caused this. This is odd.

$ pacman -Qs 'portal|flatpak'
