No sound with usb powererd speakers

Hi

I can't seem to get the speakers to work on a freshly installed system. It's a small pair of amazon basics speakers that plug into the jack and are powered by usb.

The speakers work fine in Windows and I can see them in the sound mixer as line out in Arch. They simply produce no sound. Headphones work, though.

Not sure I grok this, are those USB speakers or normal jack headsets? Or is USB strictly only used for power? Where do you plug it? can you post the output of 

dmesg -W

while plugging in the speakers?

I am sorry for not being clear. It's a jack speakers powered by USB. It's those - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB … B07DDK3W5D

Nothing is displayed by dmesg while plugging in or out the speakers.

Ah OK; so it doesn't work when both the headphones and the speakers are plugged in. It only works when headphones are disconnected. Not sure where to report this bug even or if it is one.

Generally expected behaviour, most people want their speakers muted when using headphones.

Does it restore if you do 

pactl set-sink-port alsa_card.pci-0000_0c_00.4 analog-output-lineout

? Check your amixer controls whether there's an automute control you can en-/disable 

amixer -c1

I wouldn't say it's expected; I want to be able to switch between headphones and speakers without having to disconnect the headphones.

The restore command doesn't work -- Failure: No such entity. I had pipewire installed maybe that's why?

Re: No sound with usb powererd speakers

Ask laptop users that plug headphones into the jack what they expect to happen by default. That's why defaults and options to change them exist.

In any case you do have the Auto-Mute Control therefore just try 

amixer -c1 'Auto-Mute Mode',0 Disabled

that might already fix it outright.

Other than that, no I flubbed the command it should be 

pactl set-sink-port alsa_card.pci-0000_0c_00.4.analog-output analog-output-lineout

because we are at the level of sinks not cards for that command.
