No fonts in acroread after system upgrade

Just updated a friends Arch box (not been done for 10 months). The upgrade went pretty well, but I am finding a few niggles (see firefox thread). When acroread is launched there are square blocks on all of the menus - no sign of any fonts. I have reinstalled the package and pacman shows no signs of any problems?

Re: No fonts in acroread after system upgrade

Are the right fonts installed?  I don't know what fonts are needed, but check.

Re: No fonts in acroread after system upgrade

This is a really weird one - I had finished the rest of the upgrade and decided to take a quick look at acroread (the only outstanding issue) and it worked perfectly. I have no idea why. No other packages had been added and the only changes I had made were to the /etc/rc.conf file so that the PC wouldn't try and connect to a network that isn't there (this is a free standing PC with dial-up when at home).

Let's hope it stays working.
