How to run windows executable within steam's proton context?

I need to uninstall and reinstall Rockstar Games Launcher. Basically I need to run the launcher's uninstall.exe in a way that steam's proton aware. I can't just run the exe using system installed wine right?

Just delete the files manually from ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/$game_id.

EDIT: corrected path.

Right-click on the game, go to manage, browse local files.  Rename the main executable to something else, rename the program you want to run to the main exe name, and launch the game using Steam.  After, rename back the main executable.

Edit: sometimes instead of renaming the executable you want to run as the main executable you need to instead make a copy of it then rename it.  Some programs expect their named program to be in the folder.

Use protontricks available in the AUR.
