Login manager vs display manager

I don't understand why greetd is a "login manager" while SDDM is a "display manager".

Re: Login manager vs display manager

I think the two terms could be used somewhat interchangeably...
From my perspective:
- LogIn Manager > manages user's LogIn being that CLI or Graphical
- Display Manager >  manages Graphical user's LogIn

But I could be totally wrong!! tongue

Re: Login manager vs display manager

The Wiki actually calls them out to be the same thing:

A display manager, or login manager, is typically a graphical user interface that is displayed at the end of the boot process in place of the default shell.
