[SOLVED] ROG Strix G513QY, Stuttering, any game for few sec

There is an issue that occurs almost every hour or 45 minutes, it is not constant. I thought it was related to overheating, but temperatures in GPU are almost always over 70° and below 80°. CPU temps are almost always over 90° when gaming, but it seems that is "normal" for this laptop.
I have been monitoring the logs ( dmesg, Xorg.0.log, journalctl ) and paying attention at the exact moment the fps drop occurs. However, I do not see any changes in the logs, all seems normal.
The fps drop last like 1 second, going from 144 suddenly to 30~40FPS then back to 144 in Albion Online or Dota 2 for example. Also happens in proton games, like Rocket League, Mortal Shell, etc.

I'm testing with 3440x1440 resolution at 144Hz in a external monitor. Changing resolutions to 1080p and 120Hz do not help, same issue is present even when temperatures are lower.

The weird thing is, after the fps drop, the game continues working normally for 1 or 2 hours, then the fps drop happens again and so on. I think if it was a temperature issue, the fps drop would be more constant or dramatically impacting the whole system.

I will run the radeontop utility to capture the measurements, I'll upload the results here, but for the moment, does anyone else experience the same issue? Searching in the web, I can see several similar issues, but all are more like constant fps drops because of high temperatures, or faulty AMD driver in Windows. Important to note that this issue was not happening like 1 month ago.

I'm a bit lost... Just like you...
What you could try is to start distinguishing loads between CPU-only or GPU-only!

WARNING!!!
Before proceeding, it is highly recommended that users have some means to monitor the system temperatures!!!

See here how to stress your HW.

Re: [SOLVED] ROG Strix G513QY, Stuttering, any game for few sec

This morning, after just 5 minutes approximately of launching the game, the fps drop ( or should I say Stuttering? )  happened for about 0.5s, then all ran normally for about an hour!, I had to work so wasn't able to continue the test and see if it happened again. I will test again in one moment. Meanwhile I tested the glmark2, worked nice giving good results I think:

This was tested on full screen 3440x1440 with modesetting driver ( amdgpu driver causes lag with external screen setup, so I had to switch to modesetting ). Temperatures on CPU reached 94°, Temperatures in GPU reached 76° Aprox. No Stuttering at all. Also found Reddit comments about users reporting issues with the Radeon RX6000 series.

Re: [SOLVED] ROG Strix G513QY, Stuttering, any game for few sec

I've had something similarlish  but only since the 6.1.x kernels, might want to test LTS or an older 6.0

Re: [SOLVED] ROG Strix G513QY, Stuttering, any game for few sec

Well, seems solved downgrading to Linux Kernel LTS

5.15.89-1-lts

. The Stuttering is not present anymore at least since kernel change, however, Sometimes I can see like a blink, or flash in the screen, it seems to happen when the graphical load is high, but I do prefer that over the stuttering hahaha. Thanks a lot guys! hope the next kernel 6.x iterations fix the problem.
