Grip can't find libgnomeui library

I've just installed grip, and I get this error when I start it up:

grip: error while loading shared libraries: libgnomeui-2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

The file seems to be there, though:

$ ls -AlF /opt/gnome/lib/libgnomeui-2.so.0*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      24 Dec 28 14:03 /opt/gnome/lib/libgnomeui-2.so.0 -> libgnomeui-2.so.0.1600.1*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 673230 Dec  3 05:14 /opt/gnome/lib/libgnomeui-2.so.0.1600.1*

I've tried putting symlinks to it in /usr/lib and /usr/local/lib , but still no-go.  Anyone run into this problem?
