[SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 5590 - Realtek ALC3204 -NO SOUND

Hi,
I'm a new user of Archlinux, even if I'm using Linux since long time, mainly Ubuntu and Mint.

On my Dell Inspiron 5590 I installed Archlinux following the Installation Guide then I install GDM, Gnome and Pulseaudio.

Unfortunately I have no audio at all. I think is something related to the Realtek ALC3204, because in the Gnome Setting Panel under Audio I have as device just: Dummy.

Is there a specif package I have to install to fix it. Or do you know how to fix it?

Please note this issue is not present using Mint, so the hardware is working correctly in Linux.

Is the sof-firmware package installed?

No it was not. I installed and reboot the machine couple time without success. At third restart, as a miracle, the audio device is listed and working.

Thanks for the help. Remain to me a mystery, why it took three reboot

By the way I found what happen. After the first two reboot I log in as root, the third time as normal user. In fact the device is recognized and properly working with the normal user, but it's not found and do not work when log as root.

Any idea why?

How are you determining the status of the card? Please post the exact, full commands and output.

The problem was just with the root user, so I cancel the user. Problem solved.

I had to re-install the computer from scratch. Now I can confirm the problem was the missing installation of the package 'sof-firmware'
