i'm setting up a music composition studio and i've seen recommendations on various forums and youtube that ubuntu studio is what one should use.
looking at the site:
https://ubuntustudio.org
it seems to me that all they've done is put in a bunch of software which i could selectively install myself.
so is this yet another ubuntu flavor that i can duplicate/customize using arch?
all i really require, i think, is lilypond, rosegarden (possibly qtractor) - don't even need frescobaldi since i'm using emacs lilypond-mode, and fluidsynth.

Although I'm not familiar with lilypond, rosegarden, qtractor and fluidsynth I checked and from my observation these packages are easily available in the archlinux repositories and could easily be merged to to the system using pacman. As for the overall question of "so is this yet another ubuntu flavor that i can duplicate/customize using arch?", yes absolutely.
We're all stories in the end, just make it a good one.

thx archsinner - nice tagline btw!
you've confirmed what i was hoping for that i can do pretty well everything from arch - that probably applies even to something like kali ... i just have to install the appropriate packages myself.

If you're setting up a DAW, you might want to go for a real time kernel like linux-rt.

thx just4arch.
i've heard of realtime and low latency, but never used them.
this wiki Realtime kernel patchset looks like a good place to start and i'll try it out on a separate computer.
