since updating linux-lts to 6.1 I now get massive kernel error dumps every boot relating to iwlwifi microcode, and on some networks I get very unstable connections that seem to drop for a second or two every 10 seconds or so, very annoying when in meetings.
heres a paste of the dmesg spam from iwlwifi after rebooting https://pastebin.com/eYC3Nivs
here is the output of
lspci -knn | grep Net -A31
00:14.3 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-P PCH CNVi WiFi [8086:51f0] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:0090]
Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
Kernel modules: iwlwifi
my current kernel version is 6.1.13-1, though this has occurred on every point release of 6.1 lts so far
current linux-firmare version is 20230210.bf4115c-1

done some digging and have discovered the issue start with linux-firmware version 20230117.7e4f0ed. On version 20221214.f3c283e-1 and lower there are no wifi issues. Looking at dmesg regardless of which linux-firmware package is installed I still get the same iwlwifi firmware version loaded
[ 13.096849] Intel(R) Wireless WiFi driver for Linux
[ 13.096970] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[ 13.140617] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: api flags index 2 larger than supported by driver
[ 13.140631] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: TLV_FW_FSEQ_VERSION: FSEQ Version: 0.0.2.36
[ 13.140883] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: loaded firmware version 72.daa05125.0 so-a0-gf-a0-72.ucode op_mode iwlmvm
and I have confirmed that the firmware file iwlwifi-so-a0-gf-a0-72.ucode.xz stays the same (same shasum) between linux-firmware versions, not sure where to look now as I dont want to be locked to an old linux-firmware version forever.

well if anyone stumbles on this in the future, it turned out the problem was ivpn. after uninstalling it the problems stopped.
