My little converter Asus T100HA fails to boot (probably after a recent update)
I managed to boot from a pen drive, fsck the volume,
mount the volume, edit the /etc/default/grub file in order to show the boot menu,
and boot in recovery mode.
The boot works partially, and the last messages displayed are the following :
Give root password for maintenance
(or press Control-d to continue): [ 12.264981] atomisp: Error -2 while requesting firmware shisp_2401a0_v21.bin
[ 12.294763] brcfmac: brcmf_fw_alloc_request: using brcm/brcmfmac43340-sdio for chip BCM43340/2
[ 12.319068] atomisp-isp2 0000:00:03.0: IUNIT power-off timeout
[ 12.320563] atomisp-isp2 0000:00:03.0: failed to switch off ISP
After that the system is completely locked and the only thing possible is a forced power off.
Any suggestion ?
Best regards

After a little testing I found that the above messages probably are not related with the real cause.
I tried to downgrade to kernel 6.2 and the problem persisted.
Then I downgraded to kernel 6.1.12 where the system boots correctly.
With this version the following error continue to appear, but anyway the system seems to work correctly[
atomisp: Error -2 while requesting firmware shisp_2401a0_v21.bin
I'll try occasionally new kernel version to see if the problem get solved.
Best regards.

Exactly the same here when going to kernel 6.2 today. Had to downgrade to 6.1.19 to get solved.

If anything is recorded in the journal for a 6.2 boot please post it.

I've several logs in the journal related to 6.2.0 and 6.2.1 but they seems all truncated. this is one of them

I actually ran into the same problem with a HP X2 210 G2 yesterday - same ISP-related error message with the machine locking up. I have two of them, and the one I had freshly installed showed the issue, while the second one still worked. Turned out that the second one still had an older kernel. I also discovered that I could fix this problem by adding the file it was asking for (shisp_2401a0_v21.bin) to
/lib/firmware
. I found it in this repo: https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-inte … inux-yocto
On a Pavilion X2 10 (which is very similar to the X2 210 G2), I also encountered issues with the newer kernels, resulting in CPU lock-ups. I had to revert to LTS to solve this (have not tried the firmware approach yet).

Or try blacklisting the atomisp module https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/78562

Or try blacklisting the atomisp module https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/78562
Are you by any chance aware which functionality (if any) is lost when blacklisting that module?

The module provides the Intel Atom ISP camera driver.
