Monitor frequently not detected.

My monitors aren't being detected as plugged in. I'm using xorg, qtile and picomp, though this should be related to xorg? I'm pretty new to this whole arch thing, but I sure am loving it!
The only monitor that's detected is the laptop's built-in one "eDP-1". The other two I'm trying to use are "DP-1" and "HMDI-1" I'm pretty sure.
Also, my laptop keeps using the nouveau driver's even though nvidia, nvidia-utils and nvidia-settings are all installed.

I hope these are helpful:

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

Remove the monitors conf for a start these identifiers are unlikely to stay the same. For the nvidia driver and card to start working you need to add ibt=off to your kernel parameters as noted in the blue note boxes in the installation section of the nvidia wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA#Installation and install  nvidia-lts to have the kernel module for the LTS kernel.

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

Thanks! Seems like the drivers are now kicking in!
The monitors though, still don't seem to turn on. Is additional configuration needed? I though xorg handled those automatically.

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting
The parameter will provide you w/ edid files in /sys/class/drm/card*/edid
Reboot, make sure the parameter shows up in "cat /proc/cmdline"

(for output in /sys/class/drm/card*; do if [ -e $output/edid ]; then echo basename $output; edid-decode $output/edid; fi; done) | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

You don't have to copypasta that here, just link the paste.

From previous encounters the higher refresh rates seem only available if you deactivate the IGP (in the UEFI) and run the system exclusively on the GPU.
But we'll see.

Too late for clever edits, should have been "basename $output", but it doesn't matter.

There're just card0-eDP-1 and card1-HDMI-A-2 ?
Was "DP-1-1" not attached at the time?

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

It definitely was.
Here's, again, the output of

xrandr -q

http://0x0.st/Hztf.txt
Seems like DP-1-1 still isn't being detected. Seems like it sometimes is detected, sometimes isn't.

The output of the previously requested command, but with the suggested correction.
http://0x0.st/Hztp.txt

Thanks for the help, by the way! I'm pretty lost here.

Cable?
Please also post a complete system journal for a boot w/ DP-1-1 supposingly connected:

I doubt cable's at fault here. I'm dual-booting with windows and so far the monitor's been working fine there.

3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

Done! I reset windows and totally forgot about it. It makes sense though - using the restart option in windows caused no issues.
Well, here goes the requested output for the command

(for output in /sys/class/drm/card*; do if [ -e $output/edid ]; then basename $output; edid-decode $output/edid; fi; done) | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

but now with the monitor detected!

DTD 2-4 might be ignored.
Try to add this modeline

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

Thanks! My main monitor now works - but the the other two don't. Is additional configuration needed?
Here's my 10-monitor.conf file:
http://0x0.st/HzY3.txt

Also, the output of xrandr -q, since it seems like eDP disappeared and the naming changed a bit:
http://0x0.st/HzYY.txt

Is naming based on which is my main monitor?

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

Because of

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
EndSection

you're now running on the nvidia GPU (w/o access to or implicit output redirection of the IGP)
Just

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DP-1-1"
    Modeline "1920x1080_239.76" 594.270 1920 1952 1984 2040 1080 1137 1145 1215 +HSync -VSync
    Option "Primary" "true"
EndSection

will do.

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

After the suggested edits my main monitor (DP-1-1) doesn't turn on automatically after login neither does HDMI-1-0. eDP-1 is the only one being used.
My xorg log in case it's useful:
http://0x0.st/Hz6c.txt

DP-1-1 was the only monitor working before.

Though that should™ not be required, what's the output of "xrandr -q"?

Edit: also what's your desktop environment / window manager?

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

Here's my 10-monitor-conf file:
http://0x0.st/Hz6W.txt

The output of xrandr -q:
http://0x0.st/Hztf.txt
Seems like DP-1-1 ins't being detected again..
Also I think hibernation was already turned off the last time I were to change it (since the fast startup option was missing in the power options menu)

My Qtile config.py file:
http://0x0.st/Hz6J.bin
(for some reason 0x0.st refuses to display it and instead downloads the file, is there any way around this?)

I added the 3 Screen objects as suggested here.

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

You only have eDP-1 and HDMI-1-0, DP-1-1 is disconnected (?), HDMI-1-0 is not enabled (despite the config)
The qtile config isn't the cause.
How do you start qtile?

Also post an updated xorg log.

Re: Monitor frequently not detected.

I start qtile in my .xinitrc file.
it's contents: 0x0.st/Hz6D.sh

The xorg log: https://0x0.st/Hz6c.txt

Yep, I noticed DP-1-1 was missing.
I think hibernation was already turned off the last time I were to change it (since the fast startup option was missing in the power options menu).

I'll edit the post and send the same files after a reboot if DP-1-1 is detected.
with DP-1-1 detected:
my xorg log: https://0x0.st/Hz6c.txt
xrandr -q output: https://0x0.st/Hz65.txt
