[SOLVED] gray flickering screen on certain applications

Hey guys,
I have a Lenovo Flex 5 that comes with intel iRIS Xe graphics and I've noticed this problem on two applications: blender and krita. I can't select anything and moving the cursor flickers the screen with a solid gray color, sometimes only part of the screen flashes gray.
I've noticed a different case with minecraft where the progress bar on the mojang loading screen loads to about 20% and then flickers (just the bar flickers), and maximizing the window shows the minecraft main menu (singleplayer, etc.) but it's unresponsive and again, loops and stutters.
Is this a problem with the GPU?

Additional note, the gray flicker used to happen with Visual Studio Code but running

code --disable-gpu

on command line fixes the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: [SOLVED] gray flickering screen on certain applications

In response to the link you have shared, I see that the fix was to suspend/disable the compositor. How do I disable picom (this is what I use)? Shift+Alt+F12 doesn't seem to work for me.

Here's the output to the above command:

Re: [SOLVED] gray flickering screen on certain applications

You'd have to kill picom, but the other user has an amdgpu chip.

#1: get rid of xf86-video-intel.

grep -ri intel /{etc,usr/share}/X11/xorg.conf*

to make sure there's no stale config referencing it, otherwise X11 will fail

#2: if that doesn't help, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … flickering

Re: [SOLVED] gray flickering screen on certain applications

Okay, I've removed xf86-video-intel. I'm pretty sure rebooting won't allow me to start aweosmeWM.
The above command outputs this:

	Driver "intel"

after removing the video driver.
I uncommented the above line from my xorg.conf. Rebooting started awesomeWM successfully.

Re: [SOLVED] gray flickering screen on certain applications

Does it have impact on the flicker?

wrt

my xorg.conf

You should™ not have one itfp and might want to post it for comments (though I doubt it's related to the flickering)

Re: [SOLVED] gray flickering screen on certain applications

Hey, it's all good now! The flickering has stopped, applications run normally.
The fix was removing xf86-video-intel and uncommenting the driver in xorg.conf
Thanks for helping out, Seth! Much appreciated.
