My USB mouse stopped working after performing a full system upgrade. It's only the mouse that is effected, my cell is detected when I connect it via USB. I know it's not the mouse because it works on another computer. I downgraded my kernel, no joy. dmesg -w shows nothing when I connect the mouse to laptop. Touchpad works. Any thoughts?

dmesg -w shows nothing
Nothing like "nothing at all" or "nothing you found interesting"?
In case of "nothing at all" - did you try a different USB slot?
Online
Nothing at all. No light on the bottom of the mouse. Nothing on lsusb, etc. I tried all three ports, no joy. Cellphone works so I know the USB ports work. I know the mouse works because I used it on a different computer. Something after the upgrade broke it; however, I downgraded all packages dating back to feb when the mouse was working and it still didn't work.

It has to be the hardware. I loaded a different OS, no joy. Reset the BIOS, no joy. It just doesn't make sense why I can transfer files and charge my phone via the usb ports but the mouse wont work.

The mouse will draw more power than the hub can provide (wireless mouse?), while the phone has a battery.
Does an external hard drive work? (not an SSD or a usb key, we want something w/ spinning discs)
