[SOLVED] Battery not charging when plugged in

Hi all,

When I plug in my charger, I notice that my battery does not charge.

$ acpi
Battery 0: Not charging, 56%
Battery 1: Unknown, 0%, rate information unavailable

Running dmesg | grep acpi, I get the following:

$ dmesg | grep acpi

I also noticed this error when running dmesg by itself:

[ 0.291406] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Failure creating named object [\_SB.PCI0.GPP4.WLAN._PRR], AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20220331/dswload2-326)

I have been getting secure boot to work on my laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14alc05) and have gotten it to work!. I cannot recall if the charging issue occured before implementing secure boot.
The laptop is also rather new (~6 months), with KDE showing the battery health to be 99%.

I did forget to add the acpi module when configuring GRUB, but adding it has had no change.

So, how could I my battery to charge again, but also untaint the kernal.

Help is appreciated smile

Re: [SOLVED] Battery not charging when plugged in

Does the battery charge while the system is powered off?
Is there a parallel windows installation?

No. I've had it plugged in for days with it powered off, and it hasn't charged.

No, Arch Linux is the only OS.

Thanks for the quick response!

Hardware.
USB-C or one of the round plugs? (w/ a tiny needle inside?)

The round plugs (I belive they are called barrel plugs).

Re: [SOLVED] Battery not charging when plugged in

Inspect both sides for bent or broken pins.
If you've spare devices, you could check whether it's the charger or the notebook.

Re: [SOLVED] Battery not charging when plugged in

I've tried using 2 different power adapters, and there are no bent or broken pins on either end. The laptop is recieving power (battery does not discharge when plugged in), its just that the battery is not charging when plugged in.

Re: [SOLVED] Battery not charging when plugged in

Do you get the same charge readings from some live distro / in the firmware?
Does the BIOS/UEFI offer some battery live saving settings (they'll typically stop charging at 60%)?

You could try to reset/udpate the firmware and, as final hail-mary, to drain the battery and see whether it's charging from the empty state.

Re: [SOLVED] Battery not charging when plugged in

After 20 minutes of trying to charge my baptop with a Ubuntu live distro, it has not gained charge.

The UEFI does not provide have any live battery setting.

From this, I belive that this is not a Arch Linux issue, but a hardware one. I'll be seeing if my laptop is still covered under warrenty (should be). Marking this as solved.

Regardless, Thank you seth for your help smile

Re: [SOLVED] Battery not charging when plugged in

i had it once that my thinkpad refused to charge. what fixed it for me was going into the uefi diagnostics menu and run a quick battery check (resets charge start/stop thresholds), after that i went into the uefi settings and while in there i ran out of battery.
after that it started to charge fine again
