hub 6-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any port! (err -19)

Hi everyone,

Thinkpad T14s Gen 3 AMD with latest Linux kernel.

I get the following error during boot up. The error shows up before entering the passphrase to decrypt LVM/Luks:

Apr 04 07:02:57 S2000 kernel: hub 6-0:1.0: USB hub found
Apr 04 07:02:57 S2000 kernel: hub 6-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (err -19)

The whole usb6 / hub6 part of journalctl:

Apr 04 07:02:57 S2000 kernel: usb usb6: We don't know the algorithms for LPM for this host, disabling LPM.
Apr 04 07:02:57 S2000 kernel: usb usb6: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0003, bcdDevice= 6.02

Apr 04 07:02:57 S2000 kernel: hub 6-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (219)

lspci | grep usb:

34:00.6 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Rembrandt USB4/Thunderbolt NHI controller #2

I wonder if this could be a hardware error or if I need to fix it on the software side?

Thanks!

Edit:
After a reboot the error now changed to a different hub.

hub 9-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (err -19)

Also not sure if this is related?

Re: hub 6-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any port! (err -19)

I had the same thing with Thinkpad Z16, EndeavourOS live usb wouldn't boot and there was this error.
I switched the hub to use the back-left USB-C port of the laptop instead of the one on the right, and now suddenly everything works fine. Apparently that's an USB4 port, whereas the one on the right is USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, so maybe this is something related to that?

Re: hub 6-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any port! (err -19)

I have the same error on a build PC.

I have a USB Peripheral Sharing Switch on port 8 like this, which isn't detected at boot since recently. I have to push on the switch button to switch off then, then on, etc, then after some times it works. It works flawlessly on my work computer (Dell with Ubuntu).

The error :

[    5.922156] hub 8-0:1.0: USB hub found
[    5.922157] hub 8-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (err -19)

Then after some time :

[   72.461309] usb 1-8: new high-speed USB device number 8 using xhci_hcd
[   72.667524] usb 1-8: New USB device found, idVendor=1a40, idProduct=0101, bcdDevice= 1.11
[   72.667529] usb 1-8: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=0
[   72.667530] usb 1-8: Product: USB 2.0 Hub
[   72.675512] hub 1-8:1.0: USB hub found
[   72.678475] hub 1-8:1.0: 4 ports detected

Kernel :

➜  ~ uname -mrs
Linux 6.3.8-273-tkg-pds x86_64

Happens with the linux-zen kernel too
