X not working after update

Hey, I'm having problems starting X since I upgraded my system to the new kernel and to the new nvidia drivers.
The thing is when I do startx the sreen just goes black and nothing happens.
I tried to remove the nvidia drivers and install them with the instller form their site but the same thing happens. If I change the driver in xorg.conf to "nv" it works ok so I'm assuming  the problem is with the new drivers.
Does anyone have any idea?

What gfx card do you have? Everything below geforce 5 is no longer working with the nvidia drivers past 9629 beta. If you have an older card you probably need the legacy drivers.

Well I decided to install nvdia again from pacman but forgot to remove the drivers I had isntalled previously with nvidia installer so now even with "nv" driver I get the same thing.

But the problem seems to be with module glx:

I find it hard to beleive this only happened to me after the upgrade, doesn't anyone kbow a thing about it? If so just say it so I can install another distro where I know upgrades won't mess my system.

X doesn't seem to crash here... with my laptop i had exactly the same issue, whitch i solved by adding 

Option "ConnnectedMonitor" "DFP-0"

in the video card section. For a "classical" screen it may be "CRT-0"

[Edit : Inferno & Grimm, you don't seem to have the same problem...]

It was for Grimm because in his xorg.conf this option isn't present. And the problem he mentioned (a blank screen and a working x server) is not really a crash. Am I wrong ?

Yes I realise it was not the best attitude but understand that people get frustrated after 2 weeks of not knowing why an upgrade broke the system and finding no solution... And obviously I'm thankful to everyone that tried to help.

libglx.so belongs to nvidia-utils package. For me the file is a link pointing to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.1.0.9631
Maybe you can check this.

If you have time you can also try to build nvidia-utils from abs...

Yes, I did.

I have usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.1.0.9746 as well as usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so

So far I've only removed nvidia and reinstalled it but never did with nvidia-utils because there were some packages dependent on nvidia-utils, is there a way to rmeove nvidia-utils without removing those packages as well?

Also I tried abs but it gave me an error when running "abs" about not having some path defined (can't remeber clrealy but I'll check later).

Anyone know what this might mean? The problem only happens when using nvidia drivers (using nv is ok).

yeah i had/have this problem
using kdm i got at best i got a half of the picture to display so i switched consoles killed kde/greeter cant remember exactly what its called switched back display & it was proper.
so i grabbed the driver from nvidia.com no prob now

So you remove the nvdia and nvidia-utils packages and installed the drivers from the installer at nvidia.com?
So that installer also has the nvidia-utils or is it another thing?

I tried once to install form that installer but had not removed the nvidia-utils package wich gave me another problems, that's why i'm asking this to check what's the propper procedure.

I've just upgraded the system (with new kernel) and removed nvdia and nvidia-utils and installed the drivers with the installer at nvidia.com, it still has the same problem sad so I uninstalled and installed nvdia and nvidia-utils packages back.

What does those warnings mean anyway? It just seems the graphic card isn't working at all (with the new drovers).

well i've had xfx 5200, no problems ever, and 7600 gs, no problems ever...

u may go ahead and post a bug report...

what r the kernel and nvidia driver versions/patches?

did u have any issues before the upgrade, that part's unclear...

u say now 'nv' fails also? what r the errors from that...

please don't post logs in the thread, pastebin them instead ...
