Wht can i do after arch install? Target: audio pro for rec, and play

Hi to all,

after resolved some problems in the base configuration thanks to @V1del here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=285009, i'm ready to start using Arch!
I read and studie for some months to create ma audio pro recording environment. There were ubuntu studio, mx linux, manjaro (i know is derived), but, in the end, i thinked the best solution was a clean install of arch and linux kernel and then decide what software install to have lith weight and low-latency solution.

Now i'm looking for solutions to create a good envirnoment to achive this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Professional_audio

I need some suggestions about?

Which basic applications install? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/List_o … n_services
Which X server and Desktop environment based on your experience? And with audio recording in mind? All pro audio software (audicity, ardour, guitarix, hydrogene, carla rack and so on, jack or pipewire gui) works with all desktop environment?
I have a focurite 2n2 and an old alva nanoface i hope i will find the drivers! or i hope ti understand how to compile it for arch.

Things like Display Manager / Window Manager/ Desktop Environment are very personal.

Also other choices will limit what you can use.
example : both kde & gnome require pipewire . If you prefer to control jack directly and not through pipewire , don't choose them.

For jack there's another decision relevant : jack or jack2 ?

These are excatly the advises that 'im looking for.
I think i want to explore pipewire but also try to install jack2 too.
I used it with qjacktl on windows and i was really impressed but i read too much to understand that pipewire have great potential.

Imho kde or gnome, it's the same. But in your experience for my goal (pro audio machine, rec, podcast wrokstation, DAW) what is the best:
What do you suggest to install before the X server and desktop env configuration?
Some utils or mast have for arch and music production.

Reading here https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/genera … _interface i can choose different display server. Wayland is different from x server so i discarded it cause surely some applications may not work.
After this steps i will finally go deep to musci production software choice, but if you want to share your experiences i will be glad!

I'm in an experimentation phase. My goal is to find a the best conf i can to export this like an iso to re-use also on other pc...with some drivers tweaks obviously!

I realised I may have been giving the wrong impression and let my personal bias color my post.

I have some experience with encoding / recoding , DAW and MIDI devices from when I helped a small local recording studio . The systems ran alsa + jack (jack2 didn't exist yet) .
That studio stopped 5+ years ago and since then I have not used PRO Audio software or equipment.

I disagree with the design and concept of pipewire (and pulseaudio) , so am negatively biased against them.

Documentation indicates jack2 can be used alongside pipewire. There is a potential for clashes when pipewire & jack try to control the same device.
Often installing pipewire-jack is recommended as solution , unfortunately that results in pipewire having full control of the devices and jack can only control what pipewire allows it to control.
