Cannot get the sound system work

OK. Let’s start from the beginning. At first, I was unable to connect my laptop to my Bluetooth hands-free. So I started to Google and try different solutions. After that, I ended up in a situation where I cannot even use my laptop’s speaker. You may ask why? Because when I volume up my laptop, I hear a noise that seems like the laptop’s microphone is getting echoed. You know? It seems like having a microphone in front of a speaker. That noise - sounds like a whistle - gets louder and louder when I volume up my laptop and practically it’s not possible to hear anything from the laptop but a whistle. Can you help me get this fixed please?

Re: Cannot get the sound system work

That noise is feedback and can be normal on insufficiently shielded systems, might be related to powersaving. What exactly did you "Google and try different solutions", what exactly did you do? For an overview of the current status what's your output for

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
aplay -lL
pactl list cards
pactl list sinks
pactl list sink-inputs

in https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode code tags.

Oh I googled a lot and I did a lot - shame on me!

Running $ sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*, outputs:

Running $ aplay -lL outputs:

I'm so new to the arch-world. Sorry if I have to get help from you for every step. Thanks in advance.

Re: Cannot get the sound system work

sink-inputs should give you output while attempting to play something. There's nothing suggesting anything amiss in these outputs, what's your actual problem, did you change modprobe parameters? Feedback from upping the volume is not necessarily an issue. Maybe throw in

grep -RE 'snd|sof' /{etc,usr/share}/modprobe.d
amixer -c0

Re: Cannot get the sound system work

Thank you helping me.
I have to mention restarting my laptop solved the noisy whistle sound. Now, I have my headphone connected to laptop and everything seems ok, but arch cannot detect my headphone's microphone.

Runing grep -RE 'snd|sof' /etc/modprobe.d returns nothing. But running amixer -c0 returns:

Re: Cannot get the sound system work

So you have no problems with output but with the microphone now, yes? That can be common if this a single headphone jack system. Try e.g. in a /etc/modprobe.d/micFix.conf

options snd-hda-intel model=dell-headset-multi

and reboot. If that didn't help some other model candidates are headset-mic or headset-mode (... and the entire list in https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ … xxx-models if you want to knock yourself out)  you'll need to reboot after adjusting each of those. Another one that might help is setting the add_hp_mic=true hint https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v6.2/so … nt-strings but try the model definitions first.

Re: Cannot get the sound system work

Yes yes the output issue is gone (I just don't know how). I tried almost 20 model candidates and didn't get any result. But I am completely unfamiliar with the second solution. Can you guide me what to do? Or provide a link please? Thanks in advance.
