Upgrade to Systemd-253.3-3 prevents boot (boot not in journalctl)

Hi all,

So I've been trying to troubleshoot this one after being away for 3+ months. After upgrading the following packages:

systemd 253.3-3
systemd-libs 253.3-3
systemd-sysvcompat 253.3-3

The system posts, displays the refind loader, then attempts to boot (Graphical MB picture display shown - have disabled to text only and have "starting linux systemd...") but it just hangs and sits there.

Using arch ISO on USB, booting into that and mounting drives (btrfs), rolling back the packages to 253.3-1 with pacman, regenerating initramfs and rebooting, the system boots fine.

Whats got me is the failed boot is not listed in the journalctl --list-boots command, so its really hard to troubleshoot why upgrading systemd breaks the system.

Any thoughts how I can log the bad boot to get an idea whats going on?

Thanks,

Pete

If you don't roll back systemd but regenerate the initramfs do you still have issues? That series of systemd releases introduced an udev trigger that might lead to a corrupted initramfs but it should logically be mitigated already, see https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/77789 for some more information
