Transparency Compatibility [SOLVED]

My Desktop Environment is made up of X11, Qtile, Picom, and Alacritty for the terminal emulator. I've made several attempts to target opacity for my windows without success. Before I post error codes and dig in to any of my user errors, my question is about compatibility and targeting. First does my DE support opacity settings? Second, if it does have support for opacity what should I be targeting for the setting, X11, Picom, Qtile, or Alacritty? I'm unsure as to whether I would enjoy the effect globally or just in Alacritty. Pointing me in the right direction for both options would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Transparency Compatibility [SOLVED]

picom, like most compositors, provides alpha channel control, yes.

what should I be targeting for the setting

Depends, mostly picom, but if you want real alpha-channel (solid text, but translucent background) in alacritty, alacritty. Obviously.

I'm unsure as to whether I would enjoy the effect globally or just in Alacritty

Are you seriously asking us for advice on what you might enjoy?

It only sounds subjective until you realize that ascii porn in a terminal really is quite objectively ugly with a transparent background.

No lol. It was a poorly formed question due to user error before I asked the question. The answer you gave me was what I needed to know. Thank you!

EDIT: Although I am open to good suggestions for a nice looking desktop if you wanted to provide your opinion. smile
