Migrate GNOME Settings, Any Clues?

I'm trying to create a new user and move off of my root account (apparently, that's a linux no-no), but I've gotten quite used to being logged in as root all the time, and I have all my settings just right with gnome.  Copying the home directory (including all the directories starting with . ) doesn't seem to copy the GNOME settings.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Stefan

Yeah, it's not the wisest thing to do. I found mime info stored in home/name/.gnome    but other than that I haven't turned much up. I dunknow how much there is to setup really?  I could see menu changes and icons on the top bar or something? Session changes are easily manipulated.
