[SOLVED] Applications slow to start after system upgrade

I use Arch with the i3 window manager. After a full-system upgrade Firefox, Thunderbird, and LibreOffice are very slow to start (it takes half a minute), and telegram-desktop does not start at all. However, when I switch to GNOME, I don't have an issue with any of these applications, so this seems to be an issue with i3 specifically.

I've tried downgrading i3, qt, and mesa, but nothing has helped. I would appreciate some guidance on how to debug this. Thank you!

Bunch of threads on this already, remove  xdg-desktop-portal-gnome if you're not on gnome, replace with xdg-desktop-portal-gtk if you need a portal implementation.

Thank you so much! I can confirm this issue also affects cinnamon. The suggested fix also works for cinnamon.
