[SOLVED] Trouble installing to Lenovo Thinkpad Gen 6

Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen6
Will not boot to USB stick with Arch installer.

In BIOS, the USB memory stick shows as USB HDD: VendorCo ProductCode. When the USB stick is removed from the device it does not show.

Secure Boot disabled.

- Selected as first boot device
- On boot, Lenovo logo shows then we go to another BIOS menu with two tabs:

  1. BootMenu
Shows the USB stick and an entry NVMe0
      PCI Lan
  2 App menu
     Diagnostic tests (all pass)

Selecting on BootMenu recycles to the BootMenu again.

I used dd. I've done this dozens of times.

The problem was a faulty drive.

Strange was that it worked once flawlessly but when I tried to re-install using the same usb drive, I started getting this error.

Drive passed all the usual tests for integrity so I don't know what was wrong but it failed another laptop too -- though with a different error.
