After updating firefox today from 114 to 115. It no longer starts. Starting from the terminal yields the following output:
[GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR
[GFX1-]: vaapitest: VA-API test failed: failed to initialise VAAPI connection.
ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.

ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.Following this Tutorial I was able to get firefox working again by switching to a new profile and switching back to my old profile. However starting firefox from the terminal still produces the aforementioned output. Additionally, I noticed that the minimize, maximize, close buttons for firefox don't match the system's anymore when I change to another firefox theme other than the default, when it previously did before the update. For my system information, I am using an nvidia gpu and using the cinnamon desktop.
Edit: I also don't have xdg-desktop-portal-gnome installed after uninstalling it as it could cause the same problem according to other threads. Also doing: echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP as according to this thread correctly returns cinnamon

The terminal output is normal, the theming change intentional, as there have been some changes to the themes/certain themes getting deprecated/removed soon.

I see. But i don't understand why firefox didn't even open the first time. I saw that the terminal output of option mesa_glthread being overwritten is normal for firefox. But I'm not sure about the first two messages of VA-API not working. There doesn't seem to be any specific reason given to why it caused an error unlike some other threads I've seen that do.

Does the problem still exists?
When you fail to start FF, is there a firefox process lingering around? (ps aux | grep firefox)
But I'm not sure about the first two messages of VA-API not working.
I am using an nvidia gpu

The messages still show, so in that way the problem still exists. However, after refreshing my firefox profile, firefox can actually start now. I will try installing the nvidia drivers to see if anything changes.

The messages still show
That's not the subject of this thread, though.
Mark it as solved and open a new thread (w/ appropriate subject) for the HW acceleration if that remains unsolved, thanks.
