Openshot not detecting sound hardware correctly

Upon starting OpenShot on my desktop I am greeted with an error:

Please fix the following error and restart OpenShot
no channels

So, after a few google searches I attempt to correct the channel problem by selecting a different playback audio device. However, OpenShot doesn't recognize my attempt to change audio devices, it always selects whatever is at the bottom of the list, and doesn't save anything I have selected manually.

I'm not getting this problem on my laptop. My sound works perfect otherwise on the affected machine.

Ideas?

Re: Openshot not detecting sound hardware correctly

Using the hardened kernel resolves this on my system. Otherwise, the playback audio device will always incorrectly select the last item on the list and not detect any channels.

EDIT: Rebooting and using a different kernel temporarily seemed to solve the problem, but hasn't changed anything. Now it affects all kernels.

Re: Openshot not detecting sound hardware correctly

The solution seems to be installing the pulseaudio-alsa package.
