Nvidia driver makes GDM start in X11

I switched from nouveau to nvidia proprietary driver to try to make my hdmi output recognized.
Instead now I cannot make GDM starts in Wayland anymore, thus cannot even select Gnome wayland session. Only X11 ones show up in dropup.
I got no experience with nvidia on Linux because I always avoided it.
System is HP 470 G9, i7-1255U with hybrid Intel® Graphics (ADL GT2) and Nvidia MX550

local/egl-wayland 2:1.1.12-1
    EGLStream-based Wayland external platform
local/libvdpau 1.5-1
    Nvidia VDPAU library
local/nvidia 535.86.05-8
    NVIDIA drivers for linux
local/nvidia-utils 535.86.05-2
    NVIDIA drivers utilities

Don't know what pulled egl-wayland, nor why it looks like the system doesn't boot in GBM by default

journalctl -b 0 --grep "renderer for"

Here's a full boot journal

Re: Nvidia driver makes GDM start in X11

Normal and expected, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GDM#Wa … DIA_driver for either the conditions you setup so GDM considers this properly or the rule you can disable to not do the checks that omit the Wayland session in the first place (you will want to setup the nvidia KMS at the very least with the intention of enabling a secondary screen regardless).

Re: Nvidia driver makes GDM start in X11

Thanks.
I already followed all that part, but missed the little note about adding

nvidia-resume.service

too, if using wayland.
Quite unexepcted a script like that can have something to do with a fresh boot...
Anyway now the entries for Wayland are back, but when I try one I get this

Re: Nvidia driver makes GDM start in X11

Just an update:
issue with external monitor is not Nvidia related, but it's probably due to a strange VBT exposed by HP G9 family laptops. The port is managed by internal GPU.
I think I'll go back to nouveau at some point because this is a work laptop and I don't care for discrete card acceleration.
Even with linux 6.4.10.arch1-1 and nvidia 535.98-2 I keep getting the same core dump, tho.
I'll stay with these buggy driver for a while if someone has any suggestion to fix it, for other people.

Re: Nvidia driver makes GDM start in X11

Hi, I also had the unpleasant surprise in the latest nvidia driver update of no longer having the gnome session with wayland.

I solved by giving this
command
sudo systemctl disable --now nvidia-resume.service
When I restarted, I had the option to select the session with wayland again

Re: Nvidia driver makes GDM start in X11

Thanks, but that command just avoid nvidia-resume from autorunning at boot.
That service is exactly what made wayland sessions be available in selection again, for me.
Unfortunately they're present but non-working.
