I switched my laptop from hybrid mode to dGPU (i.e. dedicated nvidia graphics with proprietary drivers) in order to improve the performance. This works except that when I plug in my thunderbolt dock with two 4K monitors, the laptop display falls back to displaying the text-mode boot log and is unusable as a third display. This isn't a particularly big deal, however when I unplug the dock the laptop display remains stuck in text mode and I can't get back into KDE by pressing any ctrl-alt-fN combo. If I plug the dock back in again the two monitors light up in KDE so it's not crashing as such.
Is there some way I can fix this?
