Pacman complaining about not enough space

Trying to update my Macbook Pro but pacman keeps telling me I don't have enough space to install the update.

Root partition has over 200Gb free.
Only thing I can think of is it is seeing the hfsplus partition size as the root size, but the only thing seeing that partition should be GRUB

The large drive is LVM, has over 200Gb free and fstab labels it as root or "/"

hfsplus partition is labeled "/boot" and is only about 600Mb.

give us the output of `df -h` and `df -hi`. And the exact output from pacman.

Took a while to get back to this, DAC was acting up and need a solution.

I don't personally see anything wrong other than the boot partition is small, but pacman shouldn't be installing or caching to boot.

Almost forgot pacman output:

error: Partition /boot is mounted read only
error: not enough free disk space
error: failed to commit transaction (not enough free disk space)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Looking at that closer, /boot read only my be the issue.
looks like an update needs to write to boot but can't.
I'll try updating permissions and report back.

A bit confused... here is my fstab file:

now according to my knowledge, rw means it should be mounted as read-write. Permissions should not be an issue as the pacman command is run with sudo.

Strange problem indeed..

random thought, I may not have installed the package for hfsplus partitions. i know i integrated it into the USB install media, but not sure if i installed the package on the system.

hfsprogs was installed, but not being able to write to /boot is the problem. I can't even update initramfs. Which is also strange because I did install the system and update it before and nothing has changed since. literally just sat on a desk functioning as an alarm clock.

The FS might have gotten remount ro for a FS error (and no fsck to fix that, why's your boot partition hfsplus?)
=> Check the system journal

hfsplus is for using a bootloader other than the apple native one. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Mac#In … _partition

Mac are a bit of a pain, but solutions exist.

Are you saying i should enter the dump and fsck values at zero? i could try that and see what happens, won't hurt anything.

nm, they are already there. Laptop screen res is so small I didn't copy the whole line.

FWIW, this is why we ask for complete commands and output (which we still haven't really seen).  A full pacman output would show which package(s) were being updated so we could confirm what is only now fairly obvious that there is a kernel upgrade and / or some other package that would trigger a initramfs rebuild and your boot partition is not writable (by pacman).  This is indeed the actual issue, the "lack of space" is a side effect and distraction from the real issue.
