Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of installing Arch Linux on my new laptop(Acer Aspire 5) and I'm encountering a specific issue. After powering on the computer with the USB flash drive to boot Arch Linux, I'm seeing an "error: serial port `com0' isn't found" message, and the boot process stops.
I've recorded a short video demonstrating this issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0HrLA5 … annel=leaf
My computer works perfectly fine with Windows, so I suspect that this issue is related to the attempt to boot Arch Linux.

What is the issue? That should be a harmless error.

I can't install arch, you can see that in video. I tried to wait about 5 minutes, sound doesn't stop and error doesn't disappear

The serial port warning/error is probably not the issue.
Do you have secureboot enabled?
Offline
no, secure boot is disabled(you can see that in the video). I have tried an older iso, and it even shows menu, but when I select an option, it just reboots(https://youtu.be/dBWVxMi0Kpo)

Can you boot in legacy mode?
Are any UEFI updates available for the system?
What specific HW is this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_Aspire_laptops
How exactly are you writing the USB key? dd?
Does any other live distro (eg. grml) boot?
On a remote chance, disable windows fast-start (3rd link below)
It'd possibly cause this but should™ not when booting an external medium.

no I can't boot in legacy mode(buttlon is not active), maybe because my laptop doesn't support it
no, there is no updates https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/prod … /downloads
It is A515-48M
I write it by rufus
debian show practicly the same trouble, but without this error(just black screan with "beep" sound)
I have not tried it, but unfortunatly it doesn't help

The model shows up w/ that record

Can you boot grml (afaik should still use syslinux to boot)?
Offline
when I boot it for the first time i saw this(https://imgur.com/psmMAeY), all times when i booted later it I see just an aser logo and text "Welcome to GRUB". It is going to be ridicules
Offline
grml wouldn't start grub?
Are you sure you end up booting from the proper device?
Did you try a different USB slot?
Offline
no, it just stuck
yes, I'm sure
yes
some how i even can start grub by creating usb image with manjaro, but every time when i select the option "Boot with open source drivers" or "Boot with open proprietary drivers", it goes to reload)

What I meant is that an attempt to boot grml should not result in "Welcome to GRUB" because it boots w/ syslinux.

I don't know where I can download iso with syslinux bootloader
