Ever since plugging in a Logitec MX Master 3S mouse, xfce4-screensaver is not turning on. I will try switching the mouse off and seeing if that has an effect. Is there a setting to allow the screensaver to activate with these types of mice?

Does it generate spurious input in "sudo libinput debug-events"?
Does it happen when running the mouse at a lower resolution (not of your screen but the mouse sensor)?

* I am not seeing anything in the output of # libinput debug-events while the system is idle.
* The DPI of the mouse is currently set to 1,000. I will try a lower setting.
One more variable is whether solaar is running or not. I will disable it and see if that is to blame.

Does the xorg log show the mouse dis- and reappearing all the time?
(w/o spurious input that's rather the only way I can see how it would inhibit the screensaver timeout)
Does xautolock trigger?

Marking as solved. Everything is behaving as it should. I do not know why xfce4-screensaver failed to work initially.
