Kernel 6.5.3 cannot boot, disks not found. Fixed by downgrading

I was unable to boot today. I use a UEFI stub to boot into LUKS encrypted BTRFS, but I do not suspect these details are implicated.

I don't have the time to do more debugging nor create a good bug report, but since I did not find any mention of people having problems with 6.5.3, I thought create this post in case someone else experiences the same problem as well.

When I tried booting, the console would print "Waiting 10 seconds for /dev/disk-by-uuid/XXXX..." before giving up and dropping me into an emergency shell (where the keyboard didn't work either). I was able to fix this myself by using a live USB to downgrade the linux and linux-headers packages down to version 6.5.2.

Re: Kernel 6.5.3 cannot boot, disks not found. Fixed by downgrading

I have the same issue. Booting with 6.5.3 hangs because the disc cannot be found. Keyboard also does not work in the emergency shell.

Here is my hardware:

I do not have the same error reported as ffrank. I don't have `xone` installed.

Re: Kernel 6.5.3 cannot boot, disks not found. Fixed by downgrading

Emergency shell bug: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/70408 roll

A missing xbox controller will probably not break the boot, the common element is (for now) the (well, "An") NVME.
@ffrank, do you also boot an
- ecrypted
- btrfs
root?

Can either of you
- boot the fallback image?
- boot with "iommu=soft nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0" added to the kernel parameters

Re: Kernel 6.5.3 cannot boot, disks not found. Fixed by downgrading

Hey seth,

No, I do not boot an encrypted or a btrfs root.
Actually after today's updates 6.5.3 is booting normally for me again.
Before that I could boot with the fallback image. I did not try the kernel parameters you suggested.

Re: Kernel 6.5.3 cannot boot, disks not found. Fixed by downgrading

I appreciate everyone chiming in with advice. I can confirm that after upgrading again, things fixed themselves without need of additional kernel parameters.
