Network card "RTL8111/8168/8411" isn't recognized anymore

Hey, after latest update yesterday my network interface stopped showing up. I looked at dmesg for relevent information and found

[    3.628436] r8168: module has no symbols (stripped?)

Corresponding to the r8168 module for my network card.

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 0c)

...But I couldn't find much helping tip from the error message alone (10 not-so-relevant answer on search engine).

I tried uninstalling the module, going on an older kernel/module version : same error and same "no network".

I fixed it for me by finding a spare network card from a drawer, but I'm curious to what must have happened and if I'm alone with this. I may try to boot from a liveUSB see if it's hardware related - still a possibility ?
