Weird qt problem with umlauts - SOLVED

Since I am German, i need to use umlauts (like äöü) when I chat. What's weird is that they are only displayed as two weird boxes when I type them in Psi's text input field, and apparently don't reach their destination either.
It gets weirder. It doesn't seem to be a font problem, since I can see the special characters from my chat partner, and they also work fine when I cut/paste them in from somewhere else. They only get wonky when I type them.
Can anyone help me out?
EDIT: This problem is with all my qt apps (I don't have KDE installed, only k3b, amaroK and psi).
EDIT: Solved. It was just a problem with my desired locale not existing since I didn't edit /etc/locale.gen and then run locale-gen.

Bump. Problem persists, original post edited to include a little more information.
