[Solved] Can user password and your admin/sudo password be different?

I understand that you set a user password, then assign that user to an admin group, then authenticate as that admin user when you need to sudo something.

So from that, it probably isn't doable unless I am missing something.

I want my admin rights to be locked behind a strong password but also don't like having to use that strong password every day just to unlock the computer.

Disabling the lock screen so it boots directly in to the user / desktop environment would also solve the issue.

Are either of these things doable?

Yes and yes.

Note https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Sudo#Root_password and whatever config your display manager uses: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Display_manager
