I have an Archlinux box with Mate as desktop environment. I update my system about every 4 , 5 days.
After I updated the system one week ago, I noted a strange behavior with Mate terminal.
Because the character font is smaller than the cursor, the cursor has to be aligned with the text. In the past the cursor and the text
have always been aligned on the bottom i.e. the lower pixel line of each character is aligned with the lower pixel line of the cursor so there is a small margin on the top of the text.
After the two week ago update the text is aligned on the top with the cursor so now there is a small margin on the bottom of the text.
I don't know if this is a bug or new configuration. I tried to restore the old status with no success. I tried to change fonts, fonts size and
cursor shape with no success.
I noted the same behavior with Pluma so, considering a general Mate problem, I tried to change Mate settings from Dconf with no success.
Any idea how to switch back to the old configuration (cursor and text bottom aligned) I more in comfort with ?

try another terminal application or dig around in settings to change the cursor, i prefer kde konsole with fish shell due to ease of use and customization

Switching to a different TE (let alone one that draws in plasma) will likely not solve this.

1. please link a screenshot to illustrate the issue

From what font, to which font. What's the output of
fc-match monospace3. Check the pacman log, what packages were in the compromising update?
Afaict pluma uses gtksourceview4 which is not directly related to vte3, so either both got a bad patch or it's something beneath… or the font still.

Fot - nimbus is notorious for bogus extents.
Remove the font or configure monospace to somethin nice, eg. Adobe source code pro.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Font_c … ault_fonts - ignore the locale tests.

I correct the pic url. Pic should appear now.

I saw the pic, did you understand that this is most likely because of the Nimbus font and that the suggestion would be to use a better™ one?

If the problem is solved please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
