Folks,
I have an issue with OBS Studio : the screen is hopelessly black as normal user, but i found out that as root it works perfectly.
I guess it has something to do with permissions, but where to look ? Comparing the boot information from both situations did not give any clue to me.
Anybody got a similar issue ?
If that helps: i run a Radeon RX 470 as graphics card with amdgpu.

If you're running Wayland then OBS needs permission from that to record the screen. If you're running X.org then OBS can just grab it. Are you Wayland or X? And what desktop environment or setup do you use?

Decided to try because I have rx470, one monitoir and use xfce, obs works fine here. Maybe try to create new user and see if it works there, could be something wrong with the obs configuration files? If that doesn't help it can be useful to try something like endeavoros liveusb (which is close enough to arch), usually saves me time when trying to decide if my arch install is messed.

Dear x1zv, this was EXCELLENT! Many thanks, i would never have had that idea by myself. I created a new user and voilà, OBS working like a charm there. So that points indeed to user-related configuration. Thus i deleted the files in .config, but sadly things remained the same. Does OBS have other user-related config files somewhere ? Or known interferences with other software/configurations ? Maybe Python ?

I have no idea, in such cases I move my stuff to the new user home or delete all the configuration files (except stuff like .mozzila and other that I deem important) from my home directory if I have no time to play around with finding the culprit. Try deleting your .Xauthority file first and then logout and log in, maybe this is the problem.

Thank you x1zv, i tried but that did not change anything. Yes, it would be like searching a needle in a haystack. Sad thing is that my home folder is huge (i use it professionally) so that a migration is not what i would prefer. However with the trick of the separate user i have now a working solution for using OBS (which is not that often). Good enough for me in the short term !
