Whole System crashes after nvidia + kernel Update

Not sure if this is the correct forum but anyways.

I did a whole system update a few days ago using the default linux kernel. But midway through my whole system froze right at dkms installing the nvidia driver

==> dkms install --no-depmod nvidia/535.113.01 --k 6.5.9-arch2-1

After waiting for about 2 hours I forced rebooted and I got told I needed to load the kernel first. I was a little frustrated and let it sit until today where I tried to fix it again. Chrooted via a live usb stick, tried everything again. Installed the latest nvidia driver, downgraded to 535, tried zen and hardened kernel with nvidia-dkms but always at this point of the Installation, the whole System freezes. At one point I also had a panic after reinistalling linux-headers. I even reset my ram oc because I thought that might be the issue but still the same. I have no clue whats going on. Any help is greatly appreciated

Best regards
lukas

Re: Whole System crashes after nvidia + kernel Update

using the default linux kernel … the latest nvidia driver

does not require DKMS.
You can also try to remove the kernel headers, install the dkms package (wha should not lead to any module being built) and "dkms autoinstall --verbose" to maybe narrow the stall.
Is this a ryzen system?

Yeah idk why I used dkms when I was on stock kernel but it worked. I will try that when I'm home. But its an Intel System with 12700K and 3070
