[SOLVED] unable to update system Keyring unable to import pgp keys

I casually tried to update my system with pacman -Syu, and was prompted with the following:

:: Import PGP key 3B94A80E50A477C7, "Jan Alexander Steffens (heftig) <heftig@archlinux.org>"? [Y/n]

but once I accepted all key imports failed with error: key "{key-id}" could not be imported.
Upon closer investigation I found out that the latest keyring file /var/cache/pacman/pkg/archlinux-keyring-20231113-1-any.pkg.tar.zst is corrupt.
I'm now unable to update the system or even download any packages.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Likely keyring corruption due to some failure with the wkd timer service, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman … l_the_keys
