Folks, this has me flummoxed. By all evidence, I should be getting sound out of my built-in speakers and headphones. When I fire up a video, I can see the volume sliders moving--but no sound from the speakers.
I started with Pipewire and I just couldn't get it working, so I doubled back to Pulseaudio. I installed all the plugins. It appears that the service has started. Does anyone have an insight on how to get this working. I've had a couple of other Arch boxes that did not have audio problems.

Folks, I'm closing this topic. I will slap Arch onto another machine. I'm retired and installing Arch Linux gives me puzzles to solve and keeps my brain active. For the time being, I'll take the problem laptop and do something else with it. Am I able to edit the subject line?

You can get help debugging this if you post the outputs I asked for. Chances are you're just missing sof-firmware.
If you want to mark/abandon it anyway, you can edit the title by editing your opening post.

Thanks. I do have a fully functional Arch installation on an ASUS Vivobook laptop. I may try my luck with a newly acquired HP Spectre 16.
