Issues with linux-6.6.2

I'm having issues with linux 6.6.2 on one of my laptops:

When I login (gdm/cinnamon), it takes like ~20s to load up the desktop opposed to ~5s on linux-6.6.1 and not a single program is able to start from that desktop. Best I get is empty terminals with blinking cursors.

I can change to a tty, CLI commands work there, although commands like ifconfig lock up without any output (network doesn't seem to get up).

I got boot journalctls for both 6.6.1 and 6.6.2 but can't see functionality to attach them here. (they are around ~3k lines)
How would I share this info?

On my other laptop and main rig that are set up very similarly I don't have such issues with 6.6.2.

I could reproduce the issue if needed for other logs going up and down 6.6.2/6.6.1 kernels.

Anything of interest in the journal?

If the journal will not fit in code tags you can use a pastebin.

Re: Issues with linux-6.6.2

Right, here are the pastebins:
6.6.1: https://pastebin.com/PQPX7Muk
6.6.2: https://pastebin.com/QBC6hx67

I skimmed through it a bit but am no expert, not sure what to look for.

What's the status of that service?

There also seem iwlwifi issues.

Can you disable the wifi NIC?

Re: Issues with linux-6.6.2

There's no option to disable it in BIOS, just that it auto-disables when the LAN cable is attached.

I booted 6.62 up at home w/o LAN cable and it seems to magically work now...
Yesterday whenever I booted up 6.6.2 I consistently had the issue, trying with/without LAN cable, hard rebooting etc.

The wifi NIC acted up before a year or so back, got it back to life after a few hard reboots pressing the power button for long. It might have just been the culprit again.

Re: Issues with linux-6.6.2

Do you still have issues w/ the org.freedesktop.RealtimeKit1 on the 6.6.2 kernel?

Re: Issues with linux-6.6.2

So back at work with LAN cable and the issue came up again.

I boiled it down to the "Auto Disconnect Wifi when LAN cable is attached" feature in the BIOS seemingly not working well with 6.6.2 and 6.6.3, too.

Disabling that feature made it work again.

About org.freedesktop.RealtimeKit1 (w/ linux 6.6.3):

# journalctl --boot | grep RealtimeKit
Nov 30 10:49:41 daren-hpc gnome-shell[613]: Failed to make thread 'KMS thread' realtime scheduled: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner: Name "org.freedesktop.RealtimeKit1" does not exist

Seems to act normal?

Yup.

Disabling that feature made it work again.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … or_laptops
The BIOS feature probably "silently" loses you the NIC and pending iwlwifi calls time out.
